I am a Vermont-based writer focused on contemporary history, in his state and around the world. Given Bernie Sander's campaign for the American presidency, I have returned Fast Lane on a Dirt Road, my contemporary history of Vermont, to Amazon. It remains the best work available to understand Vermont culture during the years of Sanders' ascent to political power. A readership interested in what really makes Vermont tick appearing, I will do an ebook of Fast Lane. Climate change remains the signature force of our time. The Climate New Deal, together with the youth revolution against carbon ruination, are the most sane movements out there now. I know because I've been writing about the dangers of green house gases and cultural/corporate/political forces that increase them while promising to do otherwise, since the mid-1990s. The bulwarks for surviving the future are one, getting past fear of what's ahead, anchoring family stability, elevating community unity before profit, and hauling truth out of our era of egregious, digital protected lying on a scale never encountered before. My present projects are a memoir, Fatherhood in the Anthropocene, a pro-child take on conception; and an allegorical novel titled The Rape of Greenland. In the novel young revolutionaries from every continent confront a billionaires' yacht race, scuttling fifty yachts, rescuing girl crews from sexual abuse, and escaping aboard a Viking knarr.
