Joellen was a 39-year-old stay-at-home mom when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. During that time, she experienced incredible intimate encounters with God that led to her spiritual healing and transformation. Her experience seeded her compassion to help others address the spiritual side of the disease, and in 2015, she founded Activate the Cure, a ministry devoted to fighting cancer with prayer. Its mission is to partner with God in the arena of cancer by praying with cancer fighters and longtime survivors, and praying for researchers working on new treatments and a cure. Joellen aims to grow the ministry into every state in the nation. (www.activatethecure.com) Joellen began her career as an analytical chemist and has served extensively in prayer ministry, including Moms in Prayer International, Ten Days of Prayer, and other local and regional prayer movements. In 2020, she prayer-walked eighty miles from New Haven, Connecticut, to Northampton, Massachusetts, in ten consecutive days. Joellen was a project coordinator for several initiatives to unify the body of Christ and has been actively engaged with the Kampala Children’s Centre in Uganda, since 2009. She has also served as a church youth leader and mentor for elementary school children. Besides focusing on her book and ministry, she is planning a retreat center for cancer survivors. In her spare time, Joellen enjoys hiking, boating, kayaking, and fiber-arts weaving. She lives on the Connecticut shoreline (USA) with her husband, an innovator who develops technologies for cancer research and the treatment of other diseases. They proudly share two adult children.
