ABOUT THE AUTHOR Joey Barnes, who is also known as the King of Obsolete, grew up in a small town called Alexander, Manitoba in a pink house which is grey to him being colour blind. In the mid 1990’s he moved to the town of Lynn Lake, Manitoba and he lives on the outskirts of town with his daughter Xena. He commonly refers to his home as the Kingdom. (What else would a “King” call his home?) Joey Barnes became involved in the scrap metal recycling industry in the early 1980’s recycling scrap throughout northern Manitoba. The high costs of transportation and residential criticism made this a constant battle so in 2004/2005 he was obliged to remove most of his scrap metal recyclables. The Kingdom contains many recycled and historical items. The King of Obsolete still uses the 1939 Chevrolet that he bought for $200.00 in 1984. Most of the King of Obsoletes equipment is from the 1940’s and 1950’s and is used regularly. The King’s Cats have been recycled or brought back to life by remodeling them and using whatever parts are available to create the winter freighting cats. These are used by the King of Obsolete for winter freighting and building winter roads. The King of Obsolete enjoys his life in the Kingdom where it is a little different. There are no restaurants in the town, no shopping malls, no fast food delivery or banks. Most supplies are bought in from Thompson, Manitoba and hauled over the 300 km “so called road”. Some goods are shipped from southern communities. Being a single parent of a daughter, a published author then on national TV around the world with 15 seconds of fame. This make the King of Obsolete know in far away places. The computers make the world a small place to keep in touch with his Kingdom Followers. Now with the Covid 19 lock downs in the year 2020 which has made the world come to a halt. The King of Obsolete used this time to write new books based on his wasted youth growing up in the south which was a different time and place compared to today’s world we live in.
