John Amrhein, Jr. was introduced to maritime historical research by his interest in SCUBA diving in the 1970s. He is now the leading authority on the 1750 Spanish fleet. In 2007, he published The Hidden Galleon; The true story of a lost Spanish ship and the wild ponies of Assateague Island, his first installment and now Treasure Island: The Untold Story finishes his documentary that spans over thirty years. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and resides on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his family where he enjoys fishing and sailing and is a real estate broker.
