John Chase is an orthopaedic surgeon who retired in 2020. After growing up and going to school in Iowa he moved to Florida for residency and practiced for thirty-five years in Orlando. Today, John is thoroughly enjoying retirement — spending time with his seven grandchildren, playing golf and pickleball, and mentoring high school students with aspirations toward careers in medicine through Elevate Orlando. He and his wife Marian have three daughters with families in Orlando, Austin, and Atlanta. "Searching for John DeWitt" is based on letters written to his family by his grandfather when he was a runner in the trenches in WW1. John is also the author a memoir titled "You What?!" Writing has turned into an unexpected avocation, and he values the connections he’s made with a wide array of people through his writing.
