John Tidball

关于作者

John E. Tidball graduated in modern languages at the University of Manchester in 1963. Since retiring from teaching, he has pursued his interests in literature, music, and art. He has recently translated and published several new editions of Charles Baudelaire's poetry. The various editions are differentiated by the way in which they present the poetry and the order of the poems. Baudelaire himself published three editions in his lifetime, two editions of Les Fleurs du mal, and an edition of additional poems that included the six banned pieces. Tidball has also translated and published the complete prose poems of Paris Spleen in both bilingual and monolingual formats. He has also published a bilingual edition of Baudelaire's sonnets, and two new editions of ‘The Flowers of Evil’, in rhyming and metered English verse. John Tidball’s translations of Baudelaire’s poetry have been highly praised for their literary quality and their unrivalled adherence to the authenticity of Baudelaire’s idiom in English translation.
