John Gookin

John is the Curriculum & Research Manager at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) www.nols.edu where he is also a senior instructor. He has authored dozens of books and research articles related to wilderness education. John has been an educator since the age of 15 when he began his career as a camp counselor/high school science teacher/USMC Spec Ops chief instructor/NOLS instructor/professor. John led the development of the NOLS core curriculum, was on the team that developed the NOLS leadership education model, and developed the NOLS leadership education program used by NASA. He has a Ph.D. in education.
