My canoe expeditions have consisted of seven to the Amazon, the Niger in West Africa, the Yellowstone, the Douro in Spain and Portugal, and 4 rivers in the Canadian north (Thelon, Anderson, Hanbury and the Kazan), among others. Some of the Amazon experiences are described in the two books on these pages - exciting, risky and gruelling trips undertaken with just one companion. I went out of curiosity, and because they fulfilled a need to have great adventures in pristine wilderness. They were tough, but great fun. I've lectured about these trips many hundreds of times on land and sea, including Seabourn, Silversea, Holland America, Cunard cruise liners. A TV film 'John Harrison Explorer' was filmed on a creek in the Amazon, and I've made several programmes for BBC radio.
