A native of Philadelphia with a BA (History) from Emory University, Jack Brown earned a PhD in American history from the University of Virginia (1992). For 25 years, he taught history of technology, applied ethics, writing, and public speaking to undergraduates in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia. His students nicknamed him “Doc Brown” – a reference to the charismatic, handsome character in Back to the Future. Research specialties in American industrial, business, and technological history led him to the Eads Bridge. He lives in Charlottesville.
