Dr. John J. Parrino was born in Tampa, Florida and raised in Ybor City, the Italo-Hispanic section of the city. His grandparents came to the U.S. from Sicily and settled in Tampa to take advantage of the burgeoning cigar industry that provided much-needed work for these new Americans. Dr. Parrino’s father Pepe, a laborer, and mother Angelina, a decorator and part-time opera singer, worked relentlessly to provide their son with the immigrant’s dream, a college education. He subsequently went on to receive his doctorate in Clinical Psychology and post-doctorate in Psychopharmacology. Dr. Parrino has been a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia for thirty five years. His first book, From Panic to Power: The Positive Use of Stress, received a sterling review from The Wall Street Journal which led to a two year stint as the Stress Doctor for the CBS affiliate. He recently reached the milestone of Life Status member of the American Psychological Association.
