I was raised in Chicago area and Pennsylvania. I graduated college from Northwestern Business College and DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. A short while after college I joined my parents in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. I eventually moved to Madison, Wisconsin. I have enjoyed working in Madison and Wisconsin Dells area. It’s quite a slower pace than Chicago. There are quite a lot of things I like in Wisconsin. I decided to take on my craft from high school – writing. I have been inspired by quite a few of the books that were high school reading assignments. I have spent a lot of time studying other artist’s writing and movies. I always wanted to write something adolescents could read and learn from, something that would inspire them. I also took a few writing classes at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. 1995-1998 received grant funding from State of Wisconsin to produce 4 books for mental health consumers, their families and providers of services. I co-authored and co-edited these books with a friend of mine who helped me run a nonprofit, Cordial Unlimited, Inc. The nonprofit used the grant money to print 900 copies of our “Stress Kit Workbook”, approximately 600 copies each of “The Americans with Disabilities Act”, “Gaining Access: Financial Benefits for the Disabled”, and “Managed Care and You”. The books ranged from 60-120 pages in length with a page size 8 ½” X 11”. Our nonprofit did all the marketing. We sold approximately 450 of the “Stress Kit Workbook” our best seller. The other 3 sold approximately 100 copies each. At this point with our sales we were told, by our funding source, to give the rest of them away. Over time I was writing on my own. I recently did a fine edit of “Things I Never Told My Doctor” and “The Domain”. These educational resource materials will give them something to think about. Living experiences by reading. ~ John P.
