John Fraser is the Senior Vice President, Internal Audit & former Chief Risk Officer (13 years)of Hydro One Networks Inc, one of North America's largest electricity transmission and distribution companies. He is a Fellow of the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (U.K.), a Certified Internal Auditor, and a Certified Information Systems Auditor. He has over 30 years experience in the risk and control field mostly in the financial services sector, including areas such as finance, fraud, derivatives, safety, environmental, computers and operations. Prior to joining Hydro One, he was: Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance, at Newcourt Credit Group Inc.; Director, Internal Audit, at Scott's Hospitality Inc.; Vice President, Investment Banking Auditing, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce; Vice President and Director, Wood Gundy Inc.; and Senior Computer Audit Manager, Coopers and Lybrand (now PWC), Chartered Accountants. He is a member of the Executive Committee and reports to the President and CEO, as well as to the Audit & Finance Committee of the Board. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (U.K.), a Certified Internal Auditor, and a Certified Information Systems Auditor. He has over 30 years experience in the risk and control field mostly in the financial services sector, including areas such as finance, fraud, derivatives, safety, environmental, computers and operations. He is a member of the Faculty at the The Directors College for the Strategic Risk Oversight Program, and has developed and teaches a Masters degree course entitled Enterprise Risk Management in the Masters in Financial Accountability Program at York University where he is an adjunct professor. He is a recognized authority on enterprise risk management (ERM) and has co-authored several academic papers on ERM. He also co-authored the CICA’s popular publications: “20 Questions Directors should ask about Risk” and “20 Questions Directors should ask about Internal Audit.” He is co-editor of two university text-books: “Enterprise Risk Management: Today's Leading Research and Best Practices for Tomorrow’s Executives” (2010) and “Implementing Enterprise Risk Management: Case Studies and Best Practices” (2014). He was born in Barbados, West indies, and came to Toronto, Canada in 1973 to pursue a career in accountancy before broadening his scope to all types of risks and control.
