John W Lundin

John W. Lundin is an attorney, historian and author, with homes in Seattle and Sun Valley, who has written extensively about Washington and Idaho history. His great-grandparents moved to Bellevue, Idaho, in 1881, drawn by the area's silver strike, and were early pioneers in the Wood River Valley. John has written 43 papers about Wood River Valley history that are available at the Center for Regional History of The Community Library in Ketchum, and his lectures there can be seen on its website, https://www.slideshare.net/CommunityLibrary. In 2018, John’s first book, Early Skiing on Snoqualmie Pass, received a prestigious Skade award as outstanding regional ski history book from the International Ski History Association. Sun Valley, Ketchum and the Wood River Valley, an Images of America series book, was published in June 2020. Skiing Sun Valley, a History from Union Pacific to the Holdings, will be published by History Press on November 9, 2020. Ski Jumping in Washington - A Nordic Tradition, will be published by History Press in January 2021, and will be part of a joint exhibit on ski jumping between the National Nordic Museum and the Washington State Ski and Snowboard Museum. He first skied at Sun Valley in 1960, after a 24-hour train ride from Seattle, when a one-week pass cost $39. He is a founder and board member of the Washington State Ski & Snowboard Museum.
