Johnny Frank McKinney is the Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church pastor in Talladega, Alabama. With more than three decades of full-time ministry behind him, Johnny McKinney is today a “voice crying in the wilderness,” proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through his teaching and preaching. He was born on 10/04/1952 to the late Frank and Katie Mae McKinney. He was a Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church deacon from 1984 to 1986. He received his calling into the Gospel Ministry in June 1986. He preached his first public sermon, “A New Beginning, The Calling of a Servant” (Joshua 1:1-2), on July 13, 1986, at the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Talladega, Alabama. He received his early education from Eastside Elementary on the east side of Talladega and attended Westside High School through the eleventh grade. He was a member of the first graduating class after Talladega High School was fully integrated in 1971. He served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. He retired from the Department of Defense with 28 years of Federal Civilian Service at Fort McClellan, Alabama, where he served as the Transportation Motor Pool Officer, GS-11. He received an Associate Degree from Gadsden State Community College, a Bachelor's Degree in Theology from Birmingham Baptist Bible College, a Master of Theology, and an Honorary Doctorate from Rushing Springs School of Theology, Sylacauga, AL. He is a member of the NAACP, AARP, Talladega County Democratic Conference, and the Knoxville Improvement Association. He served as 2nd Vice President and Secretary of the Northeast District State Convention, instructor for the Alabama State Congress of Christian Education, and Moderator of the Rushing Springs District Association from 2010 – 2018. He serves as Dean of the Rushing Springs School of Theology, instructor in The Certificate of Progress Program (COPP) for the Congress of Christian Education at the Rushing Springs District Center, Sylacauga, AL, Trustee for Selma University, Chaplain at Citizens Baptist Medical Center, board member for the Talladega Housing Authority, and substitute teacher for the Talladega City School System. He served as pastor of the Mount Olive MBC in Harpersville, Alabama, from 1988 until March 1991 and has been pastor of the Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church since March 1991. He is married to Josephine Sawyer McKinney, and they have three daughters, Katina (Tracy) Rudolph, Barbara (Stephen) Miller, and Katie (Mitri) Wilson. They have seven grandsons, Marquis, Jacques, Jacqrius, Shondarius, Donovan, Maleek, and Parker, and four great-grandsons, Kayden, Kaison, KhaMari, and Jaleel.
