Jon Parkin

Jon Parkin has an MA in Modern History from the University of Oxford (1991) and a PhD in Intellectual History from the University of Cambridge (1995). Jon was the Centenary Research Fellow at Selwyn College, Cambridge (1995-1998) and British Academy Post-doctoral Research fellow in the History Department at King's College, London (1998-9). He went on to hold the posts of Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics at the University of York (1999-2012), before returning to St Hugh's as Fellow and Tutor in Modern History in 2012. He is also Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Jon is the author of (amongst others) Science, Religion and Politics in Restoration England (1999), an edition of Richard Cumberland's Treatise of the Laws of Nature (2005), a monograph on the reception of Thomas Hobbes in England, Taming the Leviathan (2007) and co-editor (with Timothy Stanton) of Natural Law and Toleraion (2013).
