I am Professor Emeritus in Linguistics as the University of the West of England, Bristol. I have authored over 50 journal articles, chapters and books. Some of my books such as Corpus Approaches to Critical Metaphor Analysis, Politicians and Rhetoric (2 editions) and Analysing Political Speeches (2 editions) have become well known in the areas of metaphor and political rhetoric and are used in the teaching of rhetoric and persuasive language. I coined the term ‘Critical Metaphor Analysis’ to connect these fields. I have always tried to write in an accessible style to reach out to audiences beyond academia. I worked abroad for 5 years in Morocco and 5 years in Brunei before becoming a lecturer, and later professor, at the universities of Surrey and the West of England. I love languages and speak French, Spanish, Moroccan Arabic and Malay at varying degrees of incompetence.
