Joseph Braat

关于作者

Joseph Braat studied applied physics at the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, where he graduated on an optical subject. His doctoral thesis work (holographic techniques using spatially incoherent light) was carried out at the Institut d' Optique, associated with the University of Paris XI, France. His promotor was professor Serge Lowenthal. In 1973 he joined the Philips Research Laboratories, located in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, where he stayed until 1998. Principal research subjects at the Philips laboratory were diffraction theory, optical data storage, optical lithography and optical system design. In 1998 he became the full professor of optics at Delft University (department of Applied Physics). In the optics research group of this department research was carried out on high-resolution imaging and data storage, optical metrology and optical instrumentation for astronomy. In 2008 he retired from his position at the university and started writing the Imaging Optics book, together with co-author Peter Török. The book was published in 2019 by Cambridge University Press and it covers a wide range of theoretical and applied topics in optical imaging.
