Joseph Helgerson has written several books for middle-grade readers, including Horns and Wrinkles, illustrated by Nicoletta Ceccoli (Houghton Mifflin); Crows and Cards, illustrated by Peter Deseve (Houghton Mifflin), and most recently The Lost Galumpus, illustrated by Udayana Lugo (Clarion Books). He grew up along the Mississippi River, which has been the setting and inspiration for many of his stories. Over the years he’s been flooded out of his home, camped on sandbars, and dodged bald eagles. He also almost caught some really huge fish. Today he lives in Minneapolis with his wife, not far from the Mississippi, which he still loves to walk along and marvel at.
