Joe Wheaton is a fluvial geomorphologist with over fifteen years of experience in river restoration. He is an Associate Professor at Utah State University and a principal with Anabranch Solutions. Dr. Wheaton’s research has helped pioneer new design and planning tools for restoring streams, including working with beaver in restoration and developing new methods of using wood to restore streams. Joe runs the Ecogeomorphology & Topographic Analysis Lab at Utah State University and is a leader in the monitoring and modeling of riverine habitats and watersheds, especially in classifying and determining hydraulic and geomorphic change in river systems. He is the co-director of the Intermountain Center for River Rehabilitation & Restoration and a partner with Anabranch Solutions. He worked four years in consulting engineering before completing his B.S. in Hydrology and M.S. in Hydrologic Sciences from UC Davis, CA, and his Ph.D. in Hydrologic Sciences at the University of Southampton, UK.
