Karen (K.S.) Jones grew up on a cotton farm in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley, the destination for thousands of families who fled the Dust Bowl during America’s Great Depression in the 1930s. Her family’s farmhouse held over five thousand books, so reading was expected and encouraged. It became her most beloved pastime, especially in the summer when she could climb high onto the big limbs of a favorite old apricot tree and read amongst the birds. Her fondness for books came from reading the works of John Steinbeck, Jack London, H.G. Wells, Ernest Hemingway, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jules Verne, Mark Twain, and many more. K.S. Jones currently lives in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, where she writes Historical Fiction set in America and Contemporary Western Romance. In 2014, Southern Writers magazine awarded Karen their grand prize for “Best Short Fiction” of the year, and soon after, her first two novels were published. Her work has since garnered numerous literary honors, including twice receiving medals from the Will Rogers Medallion Award, Laramie Book Award, WILLA Literary Award, Chaucer Award, InD’tale magazine’s RONE Award, Literary Classics International Book Award, and was a finalist in American Book Fest's International Book Awards. In 2024, her novel TASTEFULLY TEXAS, Book One in her True Hearts of Texas series, was honored three times, being presented with a gold medal from the Will Rogers Medallion Awards and a "First Place" blue ribbon from the Laramie Awards. The novel was also named a WILLA Literary Award Finalist.
