Kaarin Lupp Darakhshan is an Estonian-Canadian author and educator whose roots are shaped by her grandparents' journeys from Estonia during WWII. Kaarin values her connection to the Estonian diaspora community in Toronto that her grandparents helped build. Teaming up with her sister Kaili, they co-founded Sõnad: Esto Words to share their passion for their heritage with their own children, as well as other families. With a keen interest in learning about different cultures, Kaarin has traveled and worked extensively abroad. As an elementary school teacher, she enjoys fostering compassion, curiosity and creativity. With a background in media studies and photography and an appreciation for culture, education and creativity, she is bringing her dream of creating children’s books to life. Kaarin has written titles such as R is for Raamat: My Estonian Alphabet Book and Vanaema’s Love: Õpi Eesti Keelt! She lives in Aurora, Ontario with her husband and young son.
