Karyn L. Wiseman

Dr. Karyn L. Wiseman is the Stuempfle-Folkemer Professor of Homiletics at United Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia + Gettysburg. She has privilege of Call in the United Church of Christ and has over 20 years of experience pastoring churches in Kansas, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. She completed her doctorate at Drew University in Liturgical Studies and Preaching. She is especially interested in engaging the 21st century church for vital ministry, equipping established communities to take on new models for church, and employing postmodern ideas to reengage younger generations in preaching and worship. Social media is a big part of her inclusive and prophetic work. Her first book, I Refuse to Preach a Boring Sermon!: Engaging the 21st Century Listener, was published in 2013. Her newest book, Queering the Pulpit: A Sexegetical Approach to Preaching an Inclusive Word has been published by Cascade Books fall 2024.
