Our story began almost four years ago when I first met Daisy. Then just a few days old, it was to be the start of an incredible friendship and an equally amazing journey. Looking after little Daisy in those early days, I very quickly realised I could not imagine my life without her. I also began to learn just how affectionate and loving these little creatures are. A month later Dandelion came along, she was not in good health and needed much care. She made a full recovery and a best friend in Daisy! Since that day they have never been apart. Their home is a stud and farm in the heart of Devon and is without a doubt the most perfect location I have ever found. A stunning landscape, amazing views and a charm all its own. It has been the perfect backdrop for their story to unfold. From here I became more and more involved in helping to take care of the herd which stands at over one hundred. It has been a constant journey of learning. I very quickly fell in love with Daisy and Dandelion and then all the characters that followed and they have quite simply become my life! Working in my current job for over 10 years, I now find myself with two jobs as I begin at 6 am each morning, taking care of the herd before heading off to work and then returning in the evening to do the night shift. Having spent over one thousand days taking care of them I have come to know them not just as a complex herd, but as individuals, personalities and family. Many people recognise that cows are intelligent and fun-loving, but I now know without a doubt that they are equally loyal, loving and sensitive. My journey has brought me here, to the writing of my beloved book ‘Knowing Daisy’. My passion is to share their story ~ For them. “It was horses that first brought me to Combe Farm, but it was to be cattle who would change my life forever” Kate Bevan
