Kate Chenery Tweedy

My author photo reflects my two worlds: there I am in proper pearls and silk at Colonial Downs Racetrack, Virginia, part of the classy world that my mother, Penny Chenery, owner of Secretariat, inhabits; and yet you also see me outdoors, hair blowing, squinting in the sun, grinning--which is the real me, disheveled and enthusiastic, a Colorado girl, horse lover, and writer. In my new book, Seretariat's Meadow, I have united those disparate parts of me with another passion, history, in telling the story of Secretariat, Mom's enduring champion, of The Meadow, the historic farm where he was born, and of my grandfather, the man whose vision gave rise to the best Thoroughbred of the last century. Along with my co-author, Leeanne Ladin, and our publisher, Wayne Dementi, we have had a joyous ride!
