For as long as Katharine can remember she's had the strange feeling that there’s another world hiding inside our own. It always seemed as if there was more to our reality than we could see. She looked for this ‘other world’ all over - in dark corners, nooks and crannies: the kind of places adults didn’t notice. Under her bed seemed to be a likely candidate. But, she never found it. When she wasn’t looking for another world, she was imagining what one might be like. She would draw, think, daydream, and read. Books like The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe convinced her all over again that she’d one day find some other realm or reality hiding at the edges or lurking in the corners of our own. Fairy and folktales also spoke to her, and she relished all that she could find. She began to make up her own tales set in other worlds, sometimes populated with people she knew, but more and more often with invented characters. And then, she started writing them down. The other bio: After gaining an English degree and an MA in creative writing, Katharine Orton worked for Barefoot Books in Bath before leaving to focus on her writing and her young family. She signed with her agent after taking part in the brilliant WoMentoring Project. Her first novel, Nevertell, was published to critical-acclaim and was an instant bestseller. Glassheart is her second book. She currently lives in Bristol.
