Kathryn Hagen was born in Denver Colorado, and grew up there and in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. She left for the big city [New York] when she was seventeen and graduated from Parsons School of Design with a Fashion Certificate. She also studied painting at the Art Student's League, and eventually earned both her BFA and MBA in Alternative Mediums at Otis College of Art and Design, where she has taught fashion drawing for the last 26 years. She has been lucky enough to train and work with many of her talented former students as instructors in the program. She also works as an illustrator and does some costume design for film. Her first book with Prentice Hall, "Fashion Illustration for Designers", is sold all over the world and has been translated into Korean and Chinese. Because fashion is more than just clothes, Kathryn also collaborated on a collection of essays with Parme Giuntini, called "Garb, A Fashion and Culture Reader". She is currently working on a book about fashion portfolios, and has plans for several more drawing textbook projects in the near future. Note: Check out her elaborate rendering demos on You-Tube.
