KATRINA GERMEIN is an Australian children's author who writes best-selling picture books. Published internationally, Katrina's award-winning stories inspire imagination, curiosity, and laughter. In 2024, Katrina's much-loved title, One Little Duck (illustrated by Danny Snell), was shortlisted for the CBCA Early Childhood Book of the Year Award. The previous year, Bev and Kev (illustrated by Mandy Foot), was recognised as a CBCA Early Childhood Honour Book and a SCBWI Crystal Kite winner. Katrina’s work has also been Highly Commended in the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards, won a Speech Pathology Book of the Year Award, and received many CBCA Notables. Her stories have been recorded five times for the children’s television show Play School and featured on other programs such as Yamba’s Playtime and Grandpa Honeyant Storytime. Katrina writes about family, friendship, and the natural environment. Her first book, Big Rain Coming (illustrated by Bronwyn Bancroft), has remained in print for over 25 years. Last year, Katrina released the fifth book in the ever-popular My Dad Thinks He’s Funny series (illustrated by Tom Jellett), and her second non-fiction title, Fabulous Frogs (illustrated by Suzanne Houghton). Spring 2025 will see the release of Katrina’s twenty-eight picture book, Another Year Around the Sun (illustrated by Alice Lindstrom). Katrina holds a Bachelor of Education and a master’s degree in early childhood education. She continues to teach part-time and regularly delivers author presentations to readers and writers of all ages. Katrina enjoys reading, daydreaming, and drinking hot cups of herbal tea; she also quite likes bushwalking and going to the beach. Katrina has an outstanding guinea pig named Honeydew and an adorable small dog named Sadie. Summer is her favourite season.
