After a decade in inner city-parish ministry, I transitioned into a long season in Christian higher education, serving campuses in Sioux Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Washington State. As the Dean of Campus Ministry I preached, developed ministries in urban and outreach programs, spiritual formation and mentoring. As a professor in spiritual formation I taught classes in scripture studies (Gospels, Old Testament, New Testament, Life & Teaching Of Jesus, Pauline Epistles, Christian Thought, Intro to the Bible, spirituality, spiritual formation and spiritual mentoring. My writing focuses primarily on spirituality and spiritual mentoring. My doctorate from George Fox Seminary was in Spirituality and Leadership. As the President of The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, I gave executive leadership to a young seminary with a focus on being robustly Christian, deeply questioning, and profoundly human (Dr. Chelle Stearns). My academic background was in history and political science, hermeneutics, and spirituality and leadership. I am a student of some of our most important writers in spirituality including Brennan Manning, Henri Nouwen, Annie Dillard, Barbara Brown Taylor, Frederick Buechner, and Joan Chittister, just to mention a few. One of my favorite quotes came from Benedict who spoke of Christian faith as having two foci: a love of learning and a desire for God. To know and to do. My books include works in Korean, Spanish, Chinese, German, and Arabic.
