Ken Dixon is enjoying his twilight years. He plays tennis to keep his body from turning to slush and dabbles in chess, backgammon, astronomy and writing to keep his mind from turning to mush. Occasionally he worries about such things as the dismal state of science education in North America, something that prompted him to write "Adventures in the Science of Cosmology" for young teens. If this book stimulates a few young minds toward a career in science, it will have served its purpose. Ken earned a BASc in metallurgical engineering from the University of Toronto. Decades later, in his retirement years, he pursued a life long interest in astronomy by earning a Masters degree in that subject from the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne Australia (heck, one can’t play tennis all the time). After a few years of metallurgical research in England, Ken settled down in Toronto for a lengthy career of programming and systems design in the computer industry. A portion of that career included teaching and developing educational material and, in his final working years, full time technical writing — all useful skills for authoring an educational book on science.
