Kimm Topping, Ed.M. is an award-winning educator, writer, historian, and community organizer dedicated to celebrating and preserving LGBTQIA+ history. As the founder of Lavender Education, a national program promoting LGBTQIA+ history and youth leadership, they’ve developed transformative workshops, professional development initiatives, and historic walking tours. For over a decade, Kimm has partnered with schools and organizations to create inclusive and liberatory learning environments. Currently, they lecture at Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in gender, sexuality, and equity. Previously, they managed the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students in Massachusetts, where they played a key role in statewide LGBTQ-inclusive education policy. Kimm’s first book, Generation Queer (Lee & Low Books, 2025), chronicles the stories of 30 LGBTQIA+ youth activists. Their historic tours of Cambridge and New York City spotlight queer and feminist activism from the 1970s to the 1990s, and their widely recognized publication series, Mapping Feminist Cambridge, is available through the Cambridge Women’s Commission. Recognized for their impact, Kimm received the Inaugural In-Service Award from the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition in 2023. Through oral history projects, archival research, and public education, Kimm bridges past and present, inspiring new generations to engage with LGBTQIA+ history and activism.
