Kirstie McLellan Day is considered one of the world’s bestselling hockey authors today. Harper Collins Canada's Chief Editor Jim Gifford credits her with creating a “new genre of sports book”. Maclean's Magazine dubbed her Canada's “Ice Queen” and calls her “the country's most successful hockey writer.” The Globe and Mail calls her ‘Hockey’s Leading Muse.” Kirstie spent the winter of 2016 working with hockey great Wayne Gretzky on his bestseller, 99: Stories of the Game. Sports Illustrated recently reviewed the book and said, "I have held (Ken Dryden’s) The Game as the best hockey book ever written…I can say that more about this one. (Gretzky) has every record there is, might as well notch his name down for best hockey book.” Perhaps one of the best-known books she co-authored, Theo Fleury’s Playing With Fire, was on the national bestsellers list for more than 52 weeks. This powerful biography has brought attention to the important issue of child sexual abuse. A play Kirstie wrote based on Theo's story stars Shaun Smyth from ABC's 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland'. It continues to tour Canada to sold out houses and standing ovations. It's next run is in Montreal at the Centaur Theatre October 2017. Her other non-fiction hockey books include, Cornered with Hockey Night in Canada host, Ron MacLean, as well as a second book with Ron MacLean called Hockey Towns. It’s a cross country collection of some of the most powerful, personal accounts in Canada’s hockey world. She also worked with the late Bob Probert on Tough Guy, which became a Reader’s Digest Book of Choice. She’s currently working with two former LA Kings on their memoirs: Marty McSorley and her new book with Islanders/Kings goaltender, Kelly Hrudey called Calling the Shots comes out October 24, 2017. Kirstie was born in Saskatchewan and studied drama at the University of Regina.
