Koos Eissen started his teaching career at the faculty of Architecture at the Delft University of Technology, back in 1975. Shortly after he started the design sketching curriculum at the Faculty of Industrial Design, of which he became Head of Department in 1987, and Associate Professor in 2004. He also has been Guest Lecturer at the Post Graduate Industrial Design of the Royal Art Academy in The Hague for more than 30 years. His first publications in the field of Architecture are ‘Architectuurpresentatie’ (Meinema, Delft 1988) which was translated into english (‘Presenting Architectural Designs’ (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1990 New York, London)) and German (Architektur-Praesentation (R.Mueller, Koln, 1990)). In 1984, his first book about design sketching was released (produktpresentatietekenen (DUP, Delft 1984)), which has been a Dutch bestseller for decades. In 2007 the first book of the SKETCHING series appeared, which he wrote together with Roselien Steur. During the time he has been Head of the Drawing Department, he has always been known within the University as a ‘stern professor’; always critical and well known for his bluntly expressing criticism (and as a stubborn person among fellow teachers, for that matter). This attitude, however, enabled him to take the sketching education to a higher level, establishing an internationally leading curriculum. He has taught many design students, and among Dutch design studio’s he is a well known (and feared!) professor. He is proud to have been teaching a lot of designers that are now internationally leading, among them the famous dutch automotive heads of design like Laurens van den Acker, Lowie Vermeersch and Adrian van Hooijdonk.
