Kristin Donnan

A freelance writer, researcher, and business owner, Kristin Donnan works individually and as a co-author, ghost writer, and editor. With world-famous paleontologist Peter Larson, she has published two books—including REX APPEAL, the source material for the Emmy®-Award-winning 2014 documentary DINOSAUR 13, a film she assisted during production. She and Peter also wrote BONES ROCK!, a children's book that teaches both kids and adults how to think like a scientist. New editions of both of these books are in production—as is a follow-up paleo book. Some of the projects she has written for others or edited are also linked here. Kristin holds an MFA in screenwriting from the American Film Institute and an MS in counseling, and currently blends her fields of interest in the development of a variety of original print and film projects; she also freelances in IMAX film development. Her past work includes: researching and writing for magazines and newspapers, television shows, and other media; editing more than a dozen books; co-creating, editing, and publishing High Plains Art (formerly Art of the Hills), an arts and culture magazine; and co-owning and operating Black Hills Bronze, a fine art foundry in Hill City, South Dakota. Although Kristin has lived on both coasts, she makes her home in the Black Hills. There, she has advocated for arts and community development throughout South Dakota, and has served as president of statewide and local arts organizations. She has received several national press awards and is a Bush Foundation Artist Fellow.
