When I decided to write a book, two key criteria were very clear to me. The targeted segment and the genre. Here is why: I have always been fascinated by the brain and its functioning. I remember reading that the human brain has billions of cells, called neurons. When a child is born, most of these neurons are not connected with each other. A connection is made between two or more neurons when a new information is received in the brain and its memory is formed. This connection is called a “synapse”. I had also read that by age 5, the brain is fully ripe and is ready to receive a barrage of information and create synaptical memory formation. That's why children as young as 5 or 6 are able to learn multiple languages and learn to play instruments like piano or violin. The flip side is that after a certain age, the unused neurons can no longer synapse and become useless. The window of opportunity therefore for brain optimization is very small. So, when I was contemplating writing a book, my twin granddaughters were around 6 and had already started reading and comprehending. My target segment therefore had to be starting from their age group and the genre had to be something stimulating, helping optimize their brain development. So, I decided that my book would be a nonfiction children’s Puzzle book for ages 6 and above. Primarily for ages 6-18 (K1-K12). Because solving puzzles strengthens synapses, helps in memory and brain development, and helps reduce cognitive memory loss in future life. “Keeya and Keeyu visit Earth Vol.1” and “Keeya and Keeyu visit Earth Vol.2” are my first and second books from a series, “Keeya and Keeyu visit Earth”, and are based on those two criteria. These educational Puzzle books are an interesting blend of art and science, where the clues are in the form of Pictures and Poems, an art component, and the Puzzles, a science component (Physical science, Earth science, and Life science). I am very blessed that after spending my professional life in international business, living in 9 countries and spending extended time in 30 others, and having engineering and MBA degrees, I am now able to divert my life totally in a new direction, following my passion in creative writing, art, and music, and am able to write full time from my home in San Francisco Bay Area in California, USA.
