With his brother and best friends fighting in Vietnam, Lee Boutell became disillusioned with oppressive politics after President Nixon spoke on his college campus. He quit school and wandered from Kansas State University to Eugene, Oregon. There he discovered a thriving youth community of idealistic, kindred spirits and his life was forever changed. He scratched together limited resources to open the area's first organic natural foods restaurant, which became a profit-sharing collective and a center for political activism and social change. These young people worked hard to make the world a better place. They took risks and they had the time of their lives. Lee is married with two adult daughters and lives in Eugene as gardener, craftsman, artist, and writer. A life-long seeker of Truth, Lee enjoys music, hiking and exploring the beauty of the natural world.
