Dr. Karpman practiced medicine for more than thirty years, apprenticed in the kitchen of an outstanding French restaurant in San Francisco, wrote food reviews for newspapers and a personal blog in California and Costa Rica and traveled to more than a hundred countries, nearly all with his wife Joan Hall. Along the way, he wrote ten books, accumulated over three hundred writing credits and received his fair share of literary awards. Food and world travel dominated his focus.
