Leroy Van Allen is now considered the Father of Morgan & Peace Silver dollars with publication of his opus the "Comprehensive Catalog & Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars" with co-author A. George Mallis. He has since published about 20 more specialized books on the subject. After selling his estate including all his publications to Michael S. Fey, Ph.D., in 2021, he has finally retired. Born in Seattle, he grew up in central California. He recevied a Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. With numerous numismatic awards, he is now recognized as the ultimate expert on Morgan and Peace silver dollars.
