Loretta Fulton earned a bachelor and journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1969 and went to work that year for the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News. She took an early retirement in 2007 and currently is a freelance writer in Abilene. From 1997 to 2004, Loretta covered religion and higher education for the Reporter-News. It was during that time that she met--and learned to appreciate--Dr. Virginia Boyd Connally, Abilene's first female physician, who opened her office in 1940. Loretta was privileged to write Dr. Connally's biography, "Virginia Connally, M.D.: Trailblazing Physician, Woman of Faith."
