With a love of the outdoors and roots planted in Northern California, author-illustrator Lorraine Bacon enjoys writing charming nature-based children’s books. Personal experiences and a professional background in forestry and education guide her works. She finds inspiration from her own garden, goofy pets and the diverse landscape where she resides. The author’s appreciation for wildlife and the environment started when she was a young girl. Throughout her childhood, Lorraine enjoyed going on family camping trips, exploring national parks, participating in 4-H and belonging to Future Farmers of America. Her experiences brought her to Reedley College’s Natural Resources and Forestry Program which she attended for one year. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development Elementary Pre-Credentialing from California State University Sacramento. Lorraine is a wife, mother to three teenagers and an avid gardener. She and her husband have worked to foster a love of nature among their own children. They continue the tradition of annual camping trips in the Sierra Nevada and raise an array of different pets. Rabbits, ducks, chickens, sheep, dogs and cats are among the many animals her family has raised over the years. Every spring, she grows a large vegetable garden (with too many tomatoes!). In the summer, she enjoys harvesting a variety of fruits and vegetables grown on her urban lot. When Lorraine is not outside, you can find her cooking, canning, baking, reading and of course, writing.
