Mara Hvistendahl is an investigative reporter with The New York Times. Her latest book, THE SCIENTIST AND THE SPY: A TRUE STORY OF CHINA, THE FBI, AND INDUSTRIAL ESPIONAGE, details a far-reaching FBI investigation involving a man accused of stealing genetically modified corn seed lines from Monsanto. Mara's previous book UNNATURAL SELECTION, on the global effects of prenatal sex selection, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. A proficient Mandarin speaker and former National Fellow at New America, she lived in Shanghai for eight years, where she covered China's renaissance in science and technology as a correspondent for Science.
