Maria Lawton, known as the “Azorean Greenbean,” is a multi-award-winning host and executive producer of the PBS series "Maria’s Portuguese Table". Passionate about her Portuguese heritage, Maria has dedicated her career to preserving and sharing the rich culinary traditions of Portugal, especially the Azores. Born on São Miguel in the Azores and immigrating to the U.S. at a young age, Maria remained connected to her roots through family recipes. This inspired her to document and share these cherished recipes with a wider audience. Her first cookbook, "Azorean Cooking: From My Family Table to Yours" and now her second book, At My Portuguese Table: Azorean Cooking and More, invites readers on a culinary journey through Portuguese cuisine. Maria's PBS series, "Maria’s Portuguese Table", showcases Portuguese culture and cuisine across the U.S. and Portugal. The series made TV history as the first national PBS show to highlight Portuguese food and culture. Maria's work has earned multiple Telly Awards, Taste Awards, and Emmy nominations. Her storytelling, connections, and authenticity resonate widely. Outside of her work, Maria enjoys family time, culinary adventures, and honoring her heritage. Thank you for all the love and support.
