I came to writing after a career in public health nursing in the wilds of the Cariboo country of British Columbia. I have always enjoyed and been fascinated by people and what they could teach me. I took that inquisitiveness into my Masters and PhD programs and then into teaching at university--but I was always writing. I wrote young adult and middle grade novels, published by the trade and then non-fiction, also published by the trade. Always Pack a Candle: A Nurse in the Cariboo-Chilcotin is the story of my first years of public health nursing in the vast interior country of British Columbia. This won the 2022 Lieutenant-Governor's Community History Award. The sequel will be released in 2024. I also self-published and enjoyed it, but now I am happily writing, as my alter ego Emma Dakin, adult mysteries in my favourite genre of cozy mysteries set in Britain. The British Book Tour Mysteries, published by Camel Press in Seattle, starts with Hazards in Hampshire and continues with Crime in Cornwall, Perils in Yorkshire ,Shadows in Sussex and more. Between writing and paddling on the ocean off the Sunshine Coast where I live, I'm a happy woman.
