MARK A. ALTMAN is a television and motion picture writer/producer whose credits include serving as Co-Executive Producer of The Librarians and Agent X. Previous TV credits include Castle and Necessary Roughness. He recently wrote and directed the comedy feature, Can't Have You. Altman has also produced the $30 million film adaptation of the bestselling video game, DOA: Dead Or Alive, which was released by Dimension Films. His first film was the award winning, Free Enterprise, starring William Shatner and Eric McCormack, which he wrote and produced and for which he won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best New Writer at the AFI Film Festival prior to its theatrical release. He is also a producer of the House of the Dead movies, based on the videogame series from Sega, from Lionsgate as well as James Gunn's superhero spoof, The Specials. His bestselling two-volume book series, The Fifty-Year Mission: The Complete Uncensored, Unauthorized History of Star Trek, was released by St. Martin’s Press in 2016 receiving rave reviews in The Wall Street Journal, Booklist and Publishers Weekly among others. It was hailed as "the final word on the final frontier" by Access Hollywood film and television critic, Scott Mantz. In 2017, Tor Books released his oral history of Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel, Slayers & Vampires and in August of 2018, an exhaustive oral history of every iteration of Battlestar Galactica, So Say We All. Altman is a former entertainment journalist. He is the founding publisher of Geek, a hip lifestyle magazine devoted to movies, television, technology and pop culture. In the past, Altman has contributed to such newspapers and magazines as The Boston Globe, Written By, L'Cinefage, Film Threat, The Manchester Guardian, The Boston Edge, Cult TV, Computer Player and many others, including Cinenfantastique for which he launched their independent film division, CFQ Films, which produced numerous successful genre features for DVD and VOD release. He has also written numerous comic books for DC and Malibu Comics, including issues of Star Trek and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. With Kriozere, he also co-wrote the critically acclaimed graphic novel Elvis Van Helsing, which has its debut at the San Diego Comic-Con and The Unknowns, which was optioned by Brett Rattner as a motion picture. Altman has spoken at numerous industry events and conventions, including ShowBiz Expo as well as the Variety/Final Draft Screenwriters Panel at the Cannes Film Festival. He was a juror at the prestigious 2002 Sitges Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain. He has been a frequent guest and panelist at Comic-Con held annually in San Diego, CA and a two-time juror for the Comic-Con Film Festival. In addition, Altman is a graduate of the WGA Showrunners Program and a member of the Television Academy. In addition to being a 2014 graduate of the WGA Showrunners Training Program, he is currently a member of the Television Academy and former member of the Television Critics Association (TCA).
