Born in Denver, I have always enjoyed learning about my city's past. DENVER'S SIXTEENTH STREET began as a research project for a class I took in 1996, Colorado History, as taught by Dr. Thomas J. Noel at the University of Colorado, Denver. After that class, I continued to research the subject for several years, culminating in this book. My second book, NORTHWEST DENVER, I wrote because I live there and love it. LOST DENVER, my third book, came to me as an idea when I realized how many newcomers had no idea what Denver used to be like. DANIELS AND FISHER: DENVER'S BEST PLACE TO SHOP and THE DENVER DRY GOODS: WHERE COLORADO SHOPPED WITH CONFIDENCE are full-length histories of Denver's two greatest department stores I wrote them because they were major Denver institutions that deserved to have their stories told, beyond just the few sentences found in most histories of Denver. LOST DEPARTMENT STORES OF DENVER takes the stories of those stores and combines them with several others (Joslins, Neusteters, Fashion Bar, and more) to tell the complete story of Denver's great retail past. Next, I wrote A HISTORY LOVER'S GUIDE TO DENVER, a compendium of over 200 great places to visit, complete with each site's history. This came out during the early part of the pandemic. In 2021 The History Press published two books by me: VANISHED DENVER LANDMARKS, which dives into nearly 40 of Denver's lost landmarks and tells some stories not told in other books, and TATTERED COVER BOOK STORE: A STORIED HISTORY, which the store commissioned to celebrate its 50th anniversary. In 2023 Arcadia published PAST & PRESENT DENVER, a then-and-now format in full color. I'm currently working on, with coauthor Jim Cavoto, DENVER'S HISTORIC CEMETERIES, to be published in 2024.
