Mark Moreno has a Master in Architecture degree from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from The University of Texas at Arlington. As a current Associate Professor at Andrews University, his creative scholarship focuses on placemaking, person-environment relationships, urban design, and kitchen and bath design. Since 1992, Professor Moreno has worked at a handful of architecture firms, taught at four universities, and presented at national and international conferences. In 2011, he received the Daniel A. Augsburger Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2018, he received the Heart of Andrews Award. As the founding Director of “Renaissance Kids (sm)” architecture camp and its online version, “The Household Edition,” Professor Moreno's teaching style emphasizes hands-on and collaborative problem-solving experiences. He shares his design expertise widely within his community, while “building with kids to build kids up.” Through the camp, more than a thousand kids have played part in designing and constructing sitting spaces, artwork, stage sets, doghouses, and playhouses. In 2018 & 2019, the program collaborated with the youth initiative, "Tiny Houses for Big Change," which was led by Saint Augustine’s Episcopal Church, Benton Harbor, MI. Together, they produced a small house for a person in need.
