Mark Sunderland is an adventurer and expert in survival techniques. He is the son of a Republican politician and a teacher, and from an early age he was distinguished by his passion for camping, hunting and wildlife. He also learned to climb with his father. At age 20 he learned and earned a 1st Dan black belt in Judo, becoming an expert in self-defense. After leaving school, Mark briefly hiked in the Himalayan mountains of Karakoram. He served in the Army with 19 SAS as a trooper trained in, amongst other things, unarmed combat, desert and winter warfare, survival, climbing, parachuting, and explosives. Hurricane Katrina deeply disrupted his life, causing the death of many people close to him. He is convinced that with the right preparation and the right techniques, many of those victims could have been avoided. Therefore, he has since decided to become a survival instructor and put the survival techniques he learned while in SAS at the service of the community.
