Marta is an art and design historian based in Brno, Czech Republic, with years of research and teaching experience from the United Kingdom. She has two main interests: identity construction in the visual arts of modern Central Europe and the politics of displays at national and international exhibitions. Her latest book - Modernity, History and Politics in Czech Art - examines the role of the changing political environment on Czech art, criticism, history, and theory between 1895 and 1939. This book looks beyond the avant-garde to the peripheries of modern art using concepts such as modernised nationalism and nationalised modernism. Currently, Marta works on the project Beyond the village. Folk art and culture as agents of modernity.
