Marta Elizabeth Magellan is a nature lover who has made putting books in children's hands her favored undertaking. She has written nonfiction books for children about unusual wild animals, texts for the educational market, magazine articles for both children and adults, poetry and essays. An avid admirer of wildlife, she travels to wildernesses all over North and South America on the watch for interesting birds and other wild animals. At present she makes presentations to schools and libraries on the impact of wild animals to the environment, as well as volunteering as a critique leader for a Miami Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) group and a judge for Rate Your Story. In the past, she founded the Kids' Choice Story Contest, in which students wrote children's stories (judged by actual kids) at Miami Dade College. In addition, she advised the Kendall Campus literary magazine, Miambiance, receiving hundreds of awards during that period while working a full-time English and Creative Writing professor. Presentation information as well as awards and reviews can be found via her website: www.martamagellan.com.
