Mary Fissell is a professor of the history of medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She writes about how people understood and experienced their bodies in the past. Her books include one about poor patients and how they found care in the 18th century, and another about the ways people imagined reproduction in Tudor-Stuart England. In her spare time, she is a metalsmith.
