Mary Jo Hazard is a retired marriage family therapist. She has worked with survivors of suicide, domestic violence victims, child abuse victims, depression, addictions and PTSD. Her recent coming-of-age novel, Stillwater, weaves themes of friendship, loss, and recovery in a story filled with quirky characters and invaluable lessons about love, life and survival. It's a story filled with laughter and tears that takes place one hot summer in upstate New York in the 1950's. In 2010, Hazard wrote the first children's book about the peacocks of Palos Verdes. She followed it with two more children's books “Palo's World” and “P is for Palos Verdes." She's working on her fourth children's book, "Smile and Say Hi." Hazard writes a biweekly column for the Palos Verdes Peninsula News and has been interviewed by NPR, Fox News, local tv stations, and featured in Peninsula News, Peninsula People and The Daily Breeze. She reads and teaches writing workshops at the local elementary schools. Hazard lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, California with her husband, Victor.
